Which Travel Vaccines Do You Need for Asia? 🌏
Planning a getaway to Asia? Whether you’re backpacking through Thailand, visiting temples in India, or relaxing on the beaches of Bali, Asia offers unforgettable experiences. But don’t forget—many parts of the continent carry health risks that can be prevented with the right travel vaccines.
At Stevenage Travel Clinic, we make sure you’re fully protected before you fly.
Hepatitis A & B
Hepatitis A: Spread through contaminated food and water. Recommended for all travellers to Asia, especially in areas with poor sanitation.
Hepatitis B: Spread through blood and body fluids. Consider this if you're travelling long-term, getting tattoos or piercings, or may need medical care abroad.
Typhoid
Typhoid is common across South and Southeast Asia and is spread through contaminated food and water. It’s especially important if you're staying with locals, visiting rural areas, or eating street food.
Tetanus, Diphtheria & Polio (Td/IPV)
Make sure your routine UK vaccinations are up to date. A tetanus booster is recommended every 10 years—particularly important for those doing adventurous or outdoor activities.
Rabies 🐒
Rabies is found in many parts of Asia and is often spread through bites or scratches from dogs, monkeys, and other animals. Consider vaccination if you’re going to remote areas, trekking, or anywhere you may be around animals (think monkey temples in Bali or India!).
Japanese Encephalitis 🦟
If you're spending extended time in rural parts of Asia—especially near rice fields or during monsoon season—Japanese Encephalitis is worth considering. Countries with risk include:
Thailand
Indonesia (including Bali)
Vietnam
Cambodia
Laos
India (particularly rural and agricultural areas)
Malaria Prevention
There’s no vaccine for malaria, but it is a risk in parts of India, Indonesia, and rural Southeast Asia. We can help with the right antimalarial tablets based on your travel plans.
